Last Night on the Emerald Isle

Well, folks. You're unfortunately going to be seeing us in only two short days. We're so sad our adventure has nearly come to an end, but they do say all the best things do.

Here's at least another double dose of Irish adventure for ya.

Yesterday, May 28, was Sunday and we had to leave our lovely B&B
Any who. We began our morning in Clifden and checked out of Joan's little Sea View Inn.  The scenery on the way south was awesome, but we were sad to leave the Connemara region. Although, it WAS followed by the Burren which is really incredible. It's where we got married the other day! We ended up stopping back by the abbey and really exploring it. So beautiful. So glad we chose that place to have our ceremony.

After leaving there, our destination was the Cliffs of Moher, which were just really something to see. None of the pictures we took could ever do it justice but of course, that applies to everything we've seen and all that we've done. Ireland is one of those places you just have to go to and see in person to fully grasp. Pretty much everything is breathtaking. As soon as we think we've gotten used to the landscape we turn a corner and everything is breathtakingly new again. So cool.

The next destination was supposed to be Baltimore (not that one) but it was a crazy long distance from where we needed to be today, so we thought we'd cut the trip short by taking a ferry! (yes, one of those!) With our car. So. Cool. <3 but it didn't cut off any distance, so we just decided to rebook into a B&B closer to where we already were, landing us in Killarney, Ireland. Our B&B was at the far end of a road...like just when we thought we were going down the wrong road, there it was. Sure enough. Actually, that's just like the road we took to get to the ferry -out in the backwoods middle of nowhere, Ireland. That was crazy.

After a quick dinner back in the town, we called it quits a little early last night, resting up for our last full day here.

Today!

So we got up and ate breakfast at the B&B (which had the best biscuits and raspberry jam EVVERRRR). And then headed out!

There's one thing that we hadn't done yet that EVERY SINGLE PERSON HAS TO DO IN IRELAND -KISS THE BLARNEY STONE!!!! So we did (:

We left and immediately went to Blarney and saw the castle (which was actually pretty cool, i'm not sure why Rick Steves thought it was bogus) although the stone itself is. James said, "This has to be the BIGGEST gimmick in the world. Pay 15 euros just to kiss a piece of rock." And he's completely right. The grounds were really beautiful, though. With gorgeous flowers blooming right now. The castle itself was built a long time ago for the clan chief but became famous when Queen Elizabeth I wanted the clan chief Cormac Macarthy to give his loyalty to her. Apparently all of his letters back to her were full of flattery but also of excuses, of which she would say, "This is all Blarney! Nothing he says, he means!" And so the word was born and whenever you kiss the stone, you gain this lovely attribute as well, known as "the gift of gab."

After leaving Blarney, we went to our last stop for the day, the Rock of Cashel. It was originally a massive castle but was given to the church in 1101 so it has been a church/cathedral since then. It's really something to see. Truly a magnificent sight perched on top of a HUGE rock that overlooks the centuries old town of Cashel. It was incredible.

We then made our way to Dunlavin to our final little B&B (a neat little place in its own right) and got the best dinner we've had over here. Guess where? HOLLYWOOD. Yes. That's right! They've have the sign and everything.

So, tomorrow we are going to do our best to see Trinity College in Dublin before heading to the airport to catch our afternoon flight. So. With that, we'll catch ya on the state side!
